The energy was palpable as 880 students from across six Catholic school boards and independent Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Toronto gathered for a special youth event focused on faith, discernment, and vocations. With priests, religious sisters, and lay leaders present, the day was filled with inspiring talks, moments of prayer, and meaningful conversations about the call to serve God in various capacities.

The event, which saw its highest attendance ever, provided young people with a unique opportunity to explore their faith and reflect on their future. Whether discerning a vocation to the priesthood or religious life, considering a call to serve in ministry, or simply seeking a deeper understanding of their relationship with God, students were encouraged to open their hearts to the Holy Spirit.

A highlight of the day was the presence of His Eminence, Frank Cardinal Leo, whose words resonated deeply with the youth. Addressing the crowd, Cardinal Leo spoke about the importance of listening to God’s voice amidst the noise of the world. “God has a unique and beautiful plan for each one of you.”

The event featured dynamic witness talks led by Deacon James Cyfko and Liliana Consolata from the Sisters of Life, who shared their personal journeys of discernment and service. The joys and challenges of their vocations, offering wisdom and encouragement to the young attendees. It starts with a simple prayer: “Lord, what do you want for my life?” This openness to God’s will, leads us to discover a calling greater than we can imagined.

Students were also given opportunities for quiet reflection and praise and workshop. These moments allowed them to ask questions and seek guidance in a personal and meaningful way. One student from the Toronto Catholic District School Board expressed how the event changed her perspective: “I came here thinking that vocations were only for priests and nuns, but I realized today that God calls us all to serve in different ways.”

The main message from the day is that the world needs young people who are bold in their faith. Never be afraid to say yes to God.

As students departed, many expressed gratitude for the experience, feeling a renewed sense of purpose and direction. With such an overwhelming response, the six Serra Clubs in the Archdiocese who, together with St. Augustine’s Seminary and the Office of Catholic Youth in collaborate with the Catholic school boards organize this event, hope that this youth summit will continue to grow, encouraging more young people to embrace their faith and discern their unique calling in the years to come.
